Toronto Minimalist Wedding Venues

Tuesday, 04 October 2022 by eventsbywhim

Toronto Minimalist Wedding Venues

The Greater Toronto Area is well known in the wedding industry for having a wide variety of venues and vendors. It can be overwhelming, but it is also nice to know that no matter your wedding style, there is a venue to suit you. If your style veers toward modern and luxurious, there are plenty of blank-slate venues that can be completely transformed to suit your vision. What I particularly love about Toronto minimalist wedding venues is that these spaces are exquisitely simple without too much decor but can be turned utterly changed depending on your vision.  Here are a few of my favourite Toronto minimalist wedding venues and some of their best features

District 28

Ceremony space at District 28 in Toronto

Olive Photography

District 28 is a fan favourite because of its blank slate and clean appeal. If you want the opposite of a traditional ballroom, this is it! The blank canvas is entirely customizable – we have seen large and hanging floral installations, large-scale vinyl applications, intentionally minimalist designs and everything in between in this beautiful and striking space. District 28 has a list of preferred caterers and vendors for you to choose from, ensuring that your experience will be positive in the hands of Toronto’s best vendors. Photos by Olive Photography.

Royal Conservatory of Music

Bright, open spaces meet enchanting views of the City of Toronto at the Royal Conservatory of Music. This elegant venue boasts glass walls for tons of natural light, marble floors and a gorgeous floating staircase. We love how dramatic the space can look depending on the backdrop chosen for the wedding ceremony and reception. This beautiful space is a hidden gem that can accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger events alike.

Globe and Mail Centre

Located in the design district near the downtown core of Toronto, the Globe and Mail Centre is a sky-high venue with incredible views of the city and both indoor and outdoor spaces to host your wedding. This versatile space has high ceilings and can be configured in a multitude of ways, making it ideal for virtually any type of event. We particularly love the chic bar and cocktail spaces as well as the abundance of lounge furniture included in the rental. The Globe and Mail Centre has partnered with quite a few of the top caterers in the city for a reduced landmark fee, and also have flexibility in allowing in other vendors based on the specific needs of the wedding.

Venue Spotlight: Crystal Ballroom in the Omni King Edward Hotel

Wednesday, 13 February 2019 by eventsbywhim

Crystal Ballroom review

There are few venues with the sheer opulence and grandeur of the Crystal Ballroom in the Omni King Edward Hotel.

Dubbed the first luxury hotel in Toronto, its history of hospitality is unparalleled, much like the Crystal Ballroom itself. Every space in the Omni King Edward drips with style, but the newly reopened Crystal Ballroom is truly a space like no other. If you are interested in reserving the Crystal Ballroom for your function, it is important to note that the venue is considered one of the most-sought after spaces, and should be booked well in advance of your wedding or event.

The beautiful space underwent a $6.5 million renovation to restore the ballroom to its former state, with many modern touches, like the chandeliers and state of the art AV system. The history of the space is impressive, dating back to the 1920s with some of the most high profile events in the city happening in this decadent space.

My favourite features of the Crystal Ballroom are the floor to ceiling windows that wash the room in bright, sunny light, which make for stunning wedding photos. The space is approximately 5,000 square feet, and so can host gala-sized events easily. I also love that the space is completely private from the rest of the hotel. The hospitality team is amongst the best in the city, and the history of the Crystal Ballroom is both extensive and interesting, a fine talking point for guests. Fine art wedding enthusiasts, designers and anyone who is a fan of urbane, romantic space will want to check out the Crystal Ballroom as soon as possible!

Boho Glam Broadview Hotel Wedding

Monday, 11 February 2019 by eventsbywhim

Guyssssss! It’s a new week, I’m feeling good, and I want to share some solid wedding inspiration!

I’m excited to share our Broadview Hotel wedding editorial that we shot last March in Toronto!

Wedding editorials are my favourite! Why? Because our team gets together with other wedding vendors in Toronto and we produce something that we dreamed up from scratch. How does the process work? Usually a few wedding friendors get together over a class of prosecco and a tasty snack and start talking. Usually the conversation turns to wedding trends and inspiration, and from there one of us will throw out a crazy idea and BAM, a shoot is born! I particularly love working with Paulina from Fete Floral because she understands my need to not recreate someone else’s ideas but to create our own. We usually think of ideas that are centred around a destination or an era, or even food!

This particular editorial was featured in print in the fall issue of Today’s Bride, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! We wanted to create a geometric design with some cosmic features that showcased the beautiful architectural history of the Broadview Hotel. The colours popped and so did the models!

A huge thanks to our amazing team, who showed up early, worked late and help put this great collaboration together! We’re only as strong as our team and I’m so proud of everyone! We absolutely could not have done this without the Broadview Hotel, and we’re so grateful that they chose partner with us on this!

Venues in the GTA: Niagara Wineries

Tuesday, 06 June 2017 by Tarisha Beniprashad

If you and your SO are fans of cozying up to a nice glass of red by the fire, then a winery wedding is the perfect choice for you. And, well, even if you don’t fancy a glass of chardonnay every now and then… it might still be your ideal venue. Wineries in Ontario are absolutely stunning in every way, and offer an exceptional backdrop for your nuptials. Whether it’s your dream to get married in a vineyard or in the quaint accommodations of a historic winery, there’s one place in Ontario that we can guarantee you’ll find it all: Niagara. Just outside of the GTA is brimming with stunning Niagara wineries with exquisite wines and more importantly, beautiful wedding venues. If you’re interested in tying the knot at one of the elegant wineries Niagara has to offer and aren’t quite sure where to begin, worry not. Take a look at some of our favorite Niagara wineries—we guarantee you’ll find something you love!

Beautiful Niagara Wineries for Your Wedding

Hernder Estate Wines

Located in St. Catherines, Hernder Estate Wines is the perfect option for any type of wedding. Their outdoor facilities are gorgeous, with a quaint little bridge for photos, and a gazebo just begging to be strewn with flowers. They have indoor facilities if you fancy a winter wedding, with two different rooms that seat from 140 to 300 guests. The barn-like structure of this venue gives us some serious rustic vibes, making it perfect for a rustic chic event.

Vineland Estates Winery

Just outside of St. Catherines is where you’ll find this stunning winery. Well-suited for a more intimate affair, this quaint venue is ideal for someone looking for a cozy place to say I do. The stunning view of their vineyard that seems to go on forever is incomparable, and makes for a gorgeous outdoor backdrop.

Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery

If you venture a little further out of St. Catherines towards Beamsville, you’ll stumble upon Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery. Since it sits right at the gateway to Niagara, you’ll find incredible views of the Niagara Escarpment, Toronto skyline and Lake Ontario when you visit this venue. What’s most unique about this location is their incredible charming coach house, where you can entertain just under 50 guests for a sit-down dinner. This makes it the perfect spot to have the intimate wedding you’ve always dreamed of.

Stratus Winery

This  Niagara-on-the-lake winery’s ambiance is surprisingly modern, while still maintaining the peaceful and elegant atmosphere of the surrounding area. They have a number of stylish rooms you can host you guests in, their most notable being the Press Alley Industrial Chic. Here, Stratus Winery can become the setting for your reception, with 50 to 100 of your closest loved ones seated at a harvest table among the oak fermenters and stainless steel tanks. Could your winery experience get any more authentic?

Reif Estate Winery

If you’re looking for a winery with a grand Victorian mansion, you’ve found the place. If you’re planning a winter wedding, you can take advantage of their stunning stained glass windows and cozy fireplaces in the Great Hall. In the summer, couples have a wrap-around verandah and an acre and a half of gardens to take gorgeous photos that’ll last a lifetime. With something to offer year-round, you’ll find that the Reif Estate Winery is the embodiment of the term ‘quaint.’

Chateau Des Charmes

An absolutely regal venue, Chateau Des Charmes is a stunning winery that absolutely begs to host the most luxurious of winery weddings. As is the Bosc Family Wines weren’t delicious enough, their grounds are swoon-worthy. With both indoor and outdoor accommodations, this is the ideal choice for those that want to forego the cozy and quaint vibe associated with most wineries, and opt for something a little more grand.

These are just a few of our favorite Niagara wineries, and we hope you found something you like too! Did we forget to mention your favorite Niagara winery? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Rustic Wedding Venues In the GTA

Thursday, 09 March 2017 by Tarisha Beniprashad

And we’re back with another edition of Wedding Venues in the GTA! This time we’ll be tackling rustic wedding venues in the GTA, for all of you who are aiming for that shabby-chic vibe on your big day. These venues aren’t just suited for casual affairs (although they’re perfect for those, too), they can also be glammed up for for a glitzy event with an added rustic edge. Rustic glam weddings have been on the rise in popularity, and we aren’t mad it it. From naked cakes, lace dresses, to venues strewn with fairy lights, we can’t get enough of this trend. Living in the big city can make it tough to find the perfect venue that’s a mixture between rustic and chic, but you don’t have to worry since the Whimlets are here to help. We’re super excited to share some of our favorite rustic wedding venues around the city with you, so let’s jump right into it!

RUSTIC WEDDING VENUES IN THE GTA

Ward’s Island Clubhouse

Steps from the Ward’s Island Ferry docks, you can find this adorable clubhouse on the Toronto Island. It may be a bit of a treck, but it’s totally worth it— you can get that beach house vibe without venturing too far from the city. In addition to its charming aesthetic, the location of this rustic wedding venue offers a great opportunity for stunning photos against Toronto’s skyline. Whether you choose string fairy lights from the stunning cathedral ceiling and go all out with decor or leave the setting in its natural beauty, you can’t go wrong with Ward’s Island Clubhouse.

Berkley Fieldhouse

You probably won’t believe us when we say you can have cocktails in a tree house and a stroll along a creek, followed by a gathering in a natural garden in the heart of downtown Toronto, but at Berkley Fieldhouse, you can have it all. Located in the centre of our bustling city, this venue is an ideal option for those that want the feel of a country carriage house, without having to actually go into the country. With quaint accents like antique chandeliers, wood walls, and french doors that lead to a garden patio, it’s tough to beat the charm of this rustic wedding venue. rustic wedding venues in the GTA

Black Creek Pioneer Village

This name might ring a bell— and yes, it’s the place you went on your seventh grade field trip to. But we promise we aren’t insane to suggest you have your wedding here! You might be surprised at how adorable the facilities are. With different options, both indoor and outdoor, of where to have your ceremony and reception, Blackcreek Pioneer Village gives you a ton a freedom when deciding what your big day will look like. Whether you choose to get married at Town Hall and celebrate in the Grand Pavilion, this village offers its 19th century charm wherever you go. rustic wedding venues in the GTA

Cambium Farms

There’s no better way to achieve that rustic vibe than getting married in a barn. You may question how you’ll prepare a barn for a chic wedding, but it’s simple when you choose Cambium Farms. An architectural masterpiece with exposed beams, braces, posts, and rafters, the intricate craftsmanship on display here doesn’t require draping or sheaths to be covered up. You can use the barn’s original form along with a few delicate embellishments to create a perfect setting for your big day. rustic wedding venues in the GTA

Pathways on Pleasure Valley

Located just 45 minutes outside Toronto, this is the perfect rustic wedding venue for couples who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy their day in a tranquil location. Described as a “hidden gem” on their website, Pathways on Pleasure Valley is just that. You can choose to hold your event at their picnic area underneath a heavenly canopy, or inside their quaint lodge. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing venue to get married, then look no further. rustic wedding venues in the GTA

Artscape Wychwood Barns

A wonderfully unique venue in midtown Toronto, this is another option that offers the charm of a rustic barn without leaving the city. With soaring ceilings, a full-length skylight, and incredibly detailed architecture, it’ll be tough to find a more stunning rustic wedding venue in Toronto. The Covered Street Barn can accommodate up to 450 guests in the theatre, and up to 600 in the reception area. However, if you’re planning on a slightly small affair, the barn can be partitioned into smaller spaces for a more intimate feel. rustic wedding venues in the GTA

These are just a few of our favorite rustic wedding venues around the GTA, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more. Toronto is crawling with rustic-chic venues that might be perfect for your big day, so if you didn’t fall in love with any of the ones on our list, don’t get discouraged! Have we left out any rustic wedding venues you think should have an honourable mention? Leave us a comment below and let us know!

The Jewel Event Centre – Claire & Ryan

Tuesday, 13 December 2016 by eventsbywhim

Claire & Ryan’s Wedding Recap

The Jewel Event Centre, a lovely wedding reception venue in Woodbridge, was home to Claire & Ryan’s wedding this past July. The Whimlets had the pleasure of assisting with the coordination and execution of this beautiful and family-filled celebration. Take a peek at the photos below, from the fine folks at Red Planet Studios.

The simply elegant wedding ceremony was held at Merciful Redeemer Catholic Church in Mississauga, a bright and lovely church with little need for added decor.

That kiss, though!

The day started off sunny and beautiful, and though a few showers didn’t change the joyous mood of the bridal party. We loved the energy this group had, all smiles and ready to party!

After the bridal party shots in Mississauga, it was time to party! Over at the Jewel Event Centre, all of the vendors were working away, finishing up the final details so the reception could get started. The Whimlets especially appreciated the lovely food displays and personalized service provided by The Jewel staff.

All in all, we had a blast assisting Claire and Ryan with their big day. We wish this fabulous couple nothing but the best for a long, happy marriage and we can’t see what they get up to next! A huge thank you to the many vendors who helped make this wedding a huge success!

The 2016 WPIC Kick Off at The Forth!

Monday, 14 March 2016 by eventsbywhim

The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada (WPIC) brings the fire every year for its annual kick off, and this year was no exception! Our own Alisha had the pleasure of attending, and blogging the event for EventSource! The theme for this year was #ClubWPIC, a classic speakeasy, and held at a gorgeous newer Toronto venue, The Forth! So many fantastic vendors contributed to this great event, including Brent Miller Live, G. Pinto, the Linen Closet, Paras Events and much more!

WPIC

#ClubWPIC, as captured by the talented team at Take1 Photography!

WPIC Kickoffs Rock!

Being WPIC certified means that we have access to a talented, experienced and helpful network of other event professionals, and their passion for this industry showed in all of the details. We loved the fun, relaxed vibe of this year’s fete. Most of the time, as planners, we’re behind the scenes ensuring everything is running smoothly, but we all look forward to this event because it’s our chance to celebrate the previous year and get inspired for the year to come. A huge thank you to the amazing team of planners who put this event together for us to enjoy! It felt great to be an attendee and enjoy the fruit of someone else’s labour!

Check out the fab pictures of the event, captured by the awesome folks at Take1 Photography!

What an amazing night! One of my very favourite parts was the keynote speech, by Arthur of Fusion Events. He did a talk on the importance of social media marketing for wedding and event pros, and simple ways for us all to up our game! I also really loved the gentlemen from Yuk Yuks who had me literally in stitches throughout both sets! Be sure to check out the generous vendors below!

Markham Hindu Wedding – #Anilina2015

Sunday, 10 January 2016 by eventsbywhim

Markham Hindu Wedding
We have waited with baited breaths for the professional photos from one of our favourite weddings from 2015. A huge thank you to G+H Photography for sharing these snaps with us! Here it is…

Gorgeous Markham Hindu Wedding at the Markham Hilton Hotel

Back in Fall of 2015 we had the pleasure of meeting Anil & Ilina, aka #Anilina2015. We immediately loved this fun, vibrant couple – I mean how could you not? They made a freaking palindrome anagram of their names and turned it into their wedding hashtag! It was true love, right from the start!

Meet Anil & Ilina – Aren’t they adorable?

Markham Hindu Wedding

Anil & Ilina on their wedding day ! Lovely photo by G+H Photography.

We worked with a multitude of vendors to bring this wedding to life. Anil & Ilina are one of the most thoughtful couples we’ve worked with so far. Their main concern was that their guests be as comfortable as possible. We love couples who put a focus on guest experience as a key element to their wedding. For example, a variety of flip-flops were provided so the ladies in attendance could ease their aching feet while dancing. Pretty sweet!

Markham Hindu Wedding

Flip-flops were provided so guests could better enjoy the dancing. Photo by G+H Photography.

The bride and groom created custom favours. These were no ordinary favours – they customized each individual message for each guest in attendance!

The beautiful decor for both the ceremony and reception was crafted by Diya Decor.  The look and feel in the Markham Hilton Hotel was very sumptuous, thanks to the elegant decor and lighting. Anil & Ilina’s guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed every bite of the food, catered by The Host. As an aside – we really enjoyed it, too!  Markham Hindu Wedding

As you all know, I love weddings. I love every part of a wedding. What I especially love are speeches, and I wanted to take a second to acknowledge the truly wonderful displays of love toward Anil & Ilina by their family and friends. It was beautiful to behold, and I felt like I was in the presence of a great and everlasting (and super fun) love. The groom’s father Terry, who happens to be an international motivational speaker gave the best wedding speech I’ve ever heard! Markham Hindu Wedding

Here are more snaps of the happy couple – and please do check out the full vendor listing at the end of our blog post!
