Minimalist Wedding at Berkeley Fieldhouse
Berkeley Fieldhouse Minimalist Dream Wedding
Jaimie’s mom reached out to me way back in early 2020 to help Jaimie and Matt with their wedding planning goals and I was thrilled when I met them in person. We met one wet Saturday morning at the cafe owned by Patricia’s Cake Creations in Toronto and had a warm drink and got to know each other. Their style, and especially their personalities really drew me in. Jaimie and Matt are fun and a little sarcastic, really warm, and overall, just such genuine souls. What I really liked best about working with them was that they were really interested in hosting a wedding that was genuine to who they are as a couple and individually. That is a whole different topic for another blog post, but I will say that authenticity in your wedding planning is critically important and a key factor to enjoying the process and your wedding day. No one wants to feel like they are stepping into an artificial role on their wedding day. After so many years of planning, I’ll say that the best weddings we plan are the ones where your guests are overheard saying, “Wow this is SO them!” Anyway, onto the recap! All of these beautiful photos were captured by the talented Kat from Boakview Photography!
As you probably guessed, the Covid19 pandemic ended up derailing our collective plans for the wedding and we ended up postponing their big day twice to September 2022. Their original venue was Airship 37, but Berkeley Events ended up undergoing a restructuring and that venue is no longer in operation so we moved to Berkeley Fieldhouse and moved the date a third time. Our amazing troop of vendors diligently stuck with us and moved the date and venue location and we continued on with our plans. Berkeley Fieldhouse wasn’t a huge pivot for us in terms of location and style, as it is nestled in the heart of Toronto and also has a blank-slate feel. The space itself is open concept with lots of neutral colour and tons of natural light. Jaimie and Matt envisioned sustainable local wild flowers, fresh and in season, alongside touches of romantic candle light and dainty watercolour stationery pieces to complete the look.
Our team works with a lot of couples and bridal parties on the wedding day, but Jaimie and Matt’s squad stood out to us because everyone was so friendly and lively, and genuinely excited to be apart of the festivities. From the early start to the trek on foot over to Berkeley Fieldhouse for photos, these guys and girls were up for anything. We felt the love from their families throughout the day. We loved that this couple opted to buck a traditional ballroom style wedding that would have been expected given their cultural backgrounds and went for a celebration more in tune with their hearts. We also especially loved that they weren’t afraid of a little colour in their wedding palette! They opted for a neutral base for the larger elements, romantic candle glow and so much colour in the wild flower arrangements, artfully designed by our friend Lisa at Whiskey Jack Flowers. Everyone had a wonderful time, including all of our vendors. Thank you again to Jaimie and Matt for choosing us to be your wedding planners!

Modern Romantic Fusion Wedding in Milton
When I had my first Skype appointment with Nicole and Kevin, I knew right away that they were part of my tribe, and their style lined up so beautifully with my own. I was thrilled when they let me know that we were planning soulmates, and the fun began! I love fusion weddings and this one is very close to my heart. This Indian-Korean-Canadian bash was such fun to plan, and full of so many personal touches that really made the wedding feel like the fusing of two cultures and two souls.
When finding the right venue, Nicole wanted tons of natural light and beautiful grounds, and so Rattlesnake Point Golf Club was a match made in heaven for us, especially as Kevin is a huge golf enthusiast. The team at Rattlesnake made us feel very welcome and were very accommodating to ensure that we had the perfect menu to suit all tastes.
We worked with quite a dream team to put together this wedding design – Princess Decor provided the decor and floral, and Vintage Glam Events provided the vintage touches. Nicole’s dream was an elegant reception with muted ivory and champagne tones. Greenery and lush florals featured prominently in this event design, as well as soft ivory drapery for the head table. We paired this with warm tapered candle light, gold geometric pieces, and gold-rimmed glass charger plates. Our own team at RSVP by Whim designed the invitations and day of stationery. Simply Lace Photography artfully captured all of the fine details in this post!
I really loved how fun the family and bridal parties were – there were so many funny moments and jokes throughout the night. The performances were stellar – including the remix of Punjabi MC and Gangnam Style that the bride and groom performed during their entrance, as well as all of the family and bridal party dances! What a talented bunch! It didn’t hurt that everyone looked fabulous, especially our beautiful bride with a change of outfit for the reception. Another very compelling detail for me, an admitted food-over, was the addition of a late night churro bar!
This wedding was a highlight for me and I could not have done it without the incredible team of vendors that came together to make magic happen. A huge thanks to our amazing team – I can’t wait to work with you all again!

Ryan and Alycia’s Romantic Mississauga Wedding
A Romantic Mississauga Wedding..
Ryan and Alycia hosted a lovely romantic wedding in Mississauga. These two lovebirds met as children, as their parents are longtime friends. Ryan proposed by planning a gourmet at-home dinner experience, complete with pretty decor, a professional chef and hand-lettered menus. We helped a little, but the concept and design was all his, and we couldn’t be prouder!
We loved their wedding day so much – especially since Ryan is a vendor we frequently collaborate with (enter shameless plug for Alley Entertainment here) and is a dear friend for years and years. On their wedding day, Ryan and Alycia were both emotional and deeply in tune with those emotions. We frequently tell our couples to just lean in to how you’re feeling, as the day goes by so quickly. Their first look was beautiful – complete with tears and watery smiles.
We started with an large-yet-intimate wedding ceremony at Red Rose Convention Centre, designed in collaboration with our friends at Princess Decor. Nafeesa worked with us to create a cherry blossom frenzy that wowed guests as they walked in. Cocktails followed with a quick room flip into the reception.
A huge thanks to our dearest Yasmeen of Muse Moi Studios for capturing these lovely photos of our dearest couple. Ryan and Alycia, we are wishing you all of the happiness in the world – we’ve enjoyed every second of planning with you, and can’t wait to see what you do next! We hope you all enjoyed this romantic Mississauga wedding.

Stephanie & Rohan’s Romantic Ancaster Mill Wedding
I met Stephanie and Rohan in a Starbucks near Square One the day after New Years in 2016. It was a chilly day, and I was excited to meet with them because of how they described their wedding vision. Meeting with these two was lovely – their vision of a cozy cottagey winter wedding resonated with me, and within a couple of weeks we got started.
Stephanie and Rohan hired a planner to help them with logistics and details, as they live in Vancouver and travel back and forth to Toronto to visit family. So we started by finding two venues to host both days of their wedding – a traditional Indo-Trinidadian Hindu ceremony followed by a light reception, and the next day, a Western-style chapel ceremony and reception. After searching through a ton of venues, we happened upon Vishnu Mandir in Richmond Hill, which was a hit with its abundance of natural lighting and large open space in the sanctuary area.
Jessica Rose Photography captured these lovely images from their Hindu ceremony at Vishnu Mandir. As you can see, Stephanie’s style favoured lovely natural lighting, winter greenery and a beautiful open concept mandap. This style was effortlessly captured by the talented Nafeesa of Princess Decor, who thoroughly enjoyed creating this very out-of-box mandap look for our happy couple. Stephanie herself evoked effortless classic beauty and style in her custom made red velvet lengha. Romantic winter wedding
On day two of the wedding, our sweet couple shared a lovely first look and then bridal party photos in the Hamilton area. Their bridal party looked incredible, dressed to the 9s, and were a fun bunch to hang out with!
Afterwards, we all headed over to Ancaster Mill’s beautiful Miller’s Chapel, decorated with fragrant winter greens and romantic candle light. Afterwards, guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour, with live music on sax by Florin Clonta, and headed into the Fallsview Room for dinner and dancing.
I loved the little details, like the garland centerpieces, which were the perfect accent in the wood and stone filled Fallsview Room. I also loved the stationery designs that Michelle put together, including the labels for the delicious homemade hot sauce favours, prepared by the groom’s mom! The night even held a few surprises – like a world class musical performance that the groom had tailored specifically for his new bride!Romantic winter wedding
Stephanie and Rohan were a pleasure to work with – we shared many laughs over our plentiful Skype calls, and we enjoyed some fabulous meals together, too! I sincerely miss working with this lovely couple, but I’m so happy to look fondly back on the weekend! A huge thank you to the myriad of vendors that worked together seamlessly to bring this lovely fusion wedding together!

How to Have a Wedding with Intention
by Alisha Chadee
OMG there’s SO much happening on your wedding day – so many people to see, so many flowers to smell, so many drinks to consume! And yet..
Too often the wedding world is focused on the pretty/fun and not necessarily the mindful, so today I thought I’d put a little focus on the latter. I’ve been around the wedding block more than a few times, and I can’t stress how important it is to have a wedding with intention. After you walk down the aisle, the plates are cleared and the last crumb of scrumptious wedding cake is devoured, you’ll notice that the day flew by. We spend months, sometimes years, planning the perfect day, and before you know it, the lights are on and the dance floor is clear. We are strong advocates for a beautiful, personalized day that reflects your couple-y style, but also a day where you take time for what’s important. Here are a few tips to have a wedding with intention.
Start the day with Yoga/Meditation/Quiet Time
I’ve had a few brides and grooms start the day this way – and we literally build it into the itinerary – and its always struck me as a beautiful way to begin a new chapter of your life. Even if you aren’t necessarily into yoga, prayer or meditation, taking a few moments to reflect on your journey together (and separately) that has lead you to this point is a great way to start your wedding day.

Take a few minutes to yourself to reflect on what’s happened and what’s to come – Tara Lilly Photography
Take a few minutes to keep your marriage in mind, and the life you want to have together, and I guarantee that no matter what the day throws at you, you’ll enjoy your day even more. Mindful wedding day
Stay Hydrated
This seems simple enough, yet proper hydration – I mean water and not champagne – is often neglected. It’s a long, long day, even though it flies by, and staying hydrated and well fed is your best bet toward surviving the day and enjoying every minute of it.

We love yummy sips and strongly advocate for them – but don’t neglect your best friend – WATER!
We’ll keep a fresh glass handy for you, but definitely start the day with a glass or two of water to keep you glowing and energized.
Spend Quality Time with your Family
Your wedding morning is a great opportunity to enjoy a warm cuppa with your immediate family and listen to any advice they may have from their years of life experience. Before things get too crazy with makeup and hair and giggling bridal party members and photographers capturing it all, have a few quiet moments with your parents, siblings and grandparents.

Claire experienced the many emotional highs and lows a bride faces on her wedding day. Red Planet Studios Photography.
This is even a great time to share a special card or letter expressing your gratitude to them for all they’ve done to support your journey to the altar. These are precious moments that you’ll cherish forever as you embark on your walk down the aisle to start your new forever and family with your spouse.
Take a Timeout
A lot happens on your wedding day. If you’ve ever seen one of the Whimlets’ timelines, there is seriously a lot packed in there. Between family, bridal party and friend photos, greeting your guests and partying the night away, you barely get any time to soak in the fact that you just got married to the love of your life! As a result, we strongly advocate taking about 15 minutes at some point to just be present with your new spouse. We usually build this in during cocktail hour or after your ceremony if we can manage it. It’s lovely to spend a few moments alone together, away from everyone else, including us and your photographers, to just be together.

Celia and Stud took a few minutes alone to just enjoy each other. In Your Prime Photography
Enjoy a few sips and snacks, giggle together about your ceremony or just do whatever – just take the time to be together before heading back out and socializing to your hearts’ content. You’ll thank us later – trust me!
And there you have it – four simple ways to stay present, grounded and mindful, and to have a wedding with intention. Let’s face it, your wedding day will eventually end (sob!), but the marriage coming afterwards is what is even more important, and we want you to look back on your wedding day as not just a lovely celebration, but the start of something very special in your matrimonial journey.

The Jewel Event Centre – Claire & Ryan
Claire & Ryan’s Wedding Recap
The Jewel Event Centre, a lovely wedding reception venue in Woodbridge, was home to Claire & Ryan’s wedding this past July. The Whimlets had the pleasure of assisting with the coordination and execution of this beautiful and family-filled celebration. Take a peek at the photos below, from the fine folks at Red Planet Studios.
The simply elegant wedding ceremony was held at Merciful Redeemer Catholic Church in Mississauga, a bright and lovely church with little need for added decor.

That kiss, though!
The day started off sunny and beautiful, and though a few showers didn’t change the joyous mood of the bridal party. We loved the energy this group had, all smiles and ready to party!
After the bridal party shots in Mississauga, it was time to party! Over at the Jewel Event Centre, all of the vendors were working away, finishing up the final details so the reception could get started. The Whimlets especially appreciated the lovely food displays and personalized service provided by The Jewel staff.
All in all, we had a blast assisting Claire and Ryan with their big day. We wish this fabulous couple nothing but the best for a long, happy marriage and we can’t see what they get up to next! A huge thank you to the many vendors who helped make this wedding a huge success!

Tia & Tony’s Fun Reception at Bellvue Manor
This past July, the Whimlets had the pleasure of coordinating a lovely wedding for a very special couple, Tia and Tony! Tia and Tony had a multi-day celebration, culminating in a gorgeous reception at Bellvue Manor! Take a peek at the fabulous photos below, from Treasured Photography!
Tia and Tony have such a great sense of style, as evidenced from Tia’s incredible Hayley Paige Dory gown. She spun to her heart’s content, and made it look effortless all day long! We loved the many stunning details that Tia and Tony thoughtfully tailored to reflect their relationship, like the beautiful multi-tier cake by Spring Bloom Cakes, that featured a Superman emblem, because Tony is Tia’s Superman :). We also realllly loved the cultural flash mob-style dance that Tia and Tony had choreographed for the reception. It started with the bridal party, and by the end almost half of the guests were in on it! The video is very impressive because it’s captured in one take!

This doesn’t even scratch the surface of this standout wedding! Tia and Tony thoughtfully planned with their guests in mind, and managed to stay cool and look like movie stars in the process. There are so many amazing vendors to thank for working hard to make this day perfect. Check ’em out below!

Markham Hindu Wedding – #Anilina2015
Markham Hindu Wedding
We have waited with baited breaths for the professional photos from one of our favourite weddings from 2015. A huge thank you to G+H Photography for sharing these snaps with us! Here it is…
Gorgeous Markham Hindu Wedding at the Markham Hilton Hotel
Back in Fall of 2015 we had the pleasure of meeting Anil & Ilina, aka #Anilina2015. We immediately loved this fun, vibrant couple – I mean how could you not? They made a freaking palindrome anagram of their names and turned it into their wedding hashtag! It was true love, right from the start!
Meet Anil & Ilina – Aren’t they adorable?
We worked with a multitude of vendors to bring this wedding to life. Anil & Ilina are one of the most thoughtful couples we’ve worked with so far. Their main concern was that their guests be as comfortable as possible. We love couples who put a focus on guest experience as a key element to their wedding. For example, a variety of flip-flops were provided so the ladies in attendance could ease their aching feet while dancing. Pretty sweet!
The bride and groom created custom favours. These were no ordinary favours – they customized each individual message for each guest in attendance!

Customized guest favours with individual messages to each guest in attendance. Photo by G+H Photography.
The beautiful decor for both the ceremony and reception was crafted by Diya Decor. The look and feel in the Markham Hilton Hotel was very sumptuous, thanks to the elegant decor and lighting. Anil & Ilina’s guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed every bite of the food, catered by The Host. As an aside – we really enjoyed it, too! Markham Hindu Wedding
As you all know, I love weddings. I love every part of a wedding. What I especially love are speeches, and I wanted to take a second to acknowledge the truly wonderful displays of love toward Anil & Ilina by their family and friends. It was beautiful to behold, and I felt like I was in the presence of a great and everlasting (and super fun) love. The groom’s father Terry, who happens to be an international motivational speaker gave the best wedding speech I’ve ever heard! Markham Hindu Wedding
Here are more snaps of the happy couple – and please do check out the full vendor listing at the end of our blog post!

A Modern Romance at Liberty Grand in Toronto
Liberty Grand is a beautiful spot. Seriously gorgeous.
We never get tired of weddings at Liberty Grand in Toronto. It’s such an elegant spot, with great modern features set against a historic building. Naturally when one of our August 2015 couples contacted us and said their venue was Liberty Grand, we were seriously stoked.
Meet Valerie & Jon. Adorable, right?
Apart from their obvious cuteness, these two were such a delight to work with – so laid back and genuinely excited about getting married and showing their guests a great time. Michelle and I were more than happy to get involved and help them with their finishing touches. This wedding had a lot of fun features to keep guests entertained all day and night!
Valerie & Jon hired a very talented group of vendors to help pull their wedding together, and based on their review of us, it’s safe to say that they are happy with the end-result :). Check out a few more of their photos, and a full vendor listing below. Thanks again to the fabulous Memory Photo and Video based out of Woodbridge. You guys rock! Guests walked away with hand-rolled cigar favours, individually wrapped. Michael McDonnell and a team of two arrived on site after dinner to provide caricature sketches for guests to take home.

This cake was a huge hit with us and all of the guest. This delightful confectionary creation was created by the Wedding Cake Shoppe in Toronto :).

This crowd had a blast from start to end. There was a ton of audience participation and everyone clamoured to be involved!

This is the beautiful bride with two of her bridesmaids and the most adorable little flower girl in the world. This shot was taken in the courtyard of Liberty Grand

Rose gold and blush head table. Isn’t the backdrop stunning? Wedding Wows Toronto provided the beautiful decor.
