Boho Glam Broadview Hotel Wedding
Guyssssss! It’s a new week, I’m feeling good, and I want to share some solid wedding inspiration!
I’m excited to share our Broadview Hotel wedding editorial that we shot last March in Toronto!
Wedding editorials are my favourite! Why? Because our team gets together with other wedding vendors in Toronto and we produce something that we dreamed up from scratch. How does the process work? Usually a few wedding friendors get together over a class of prosecco and a tasty snack and start talking. Usually the conversation turns to wedding trends and inspiration, and from there one of us will throw out a crazy idea and BAM, a shoot is born! I particularly love working with Paulina from Fete Floral because she understands my need to not recreate someone else’s ideas but to create our own. We usually think of ideas that are centred around a destination or an era, or even food!
This particular editorial was featured in print in the fall issue of Today’s Bride, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! We wanted to create a geometric design with some cosmic features that showcased the beautiful architectural history of the Broadview Hotel. The colours popped and so did the models!
A huge thanks to our amazing team, who showed up early, worked late and help put this great collaboration together! We’re only as strong as our team and I’m so proud of everyone! We absolutely could not have done this without the Broadview Hotel, and we’re so grateful that they chose partner with us on this!

Calling all stylish brides & bridesmaids! If you’re like us, you’re probably fed up of seeing bridesmaids all wearing the same styles, season after season. If you’re a bridesmaid, you’re probably tired of spending $ on a dress you’ll never wear again. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of non-traditional bridesmaids dress options that are anything but basic.

Yaya & Co
This stylish Canadian boutique stole my heart ages ago, and I’ve long thought that many of the trendy pieces, like cute separates, jumpers, and dresses, would be perfect as non-traditional bridesmaids dresses. We love the versatility of the outfits, and your girls will thank you for picking highly re-wearable designs.
ModCloth
We heart ModCloth! Not only does the site boast dresses so cute you’ll want to be in your own bridal party, but there is even a section dedicated to affordable, and adorable wedding gowns! With prices to fit every bridal party budget, you’ll be the least bridezilla bride on the block!

Rustic Wedding Venues In the GTA
And we’re back with another edition of Wedding Venues in the GTA! This time we’ll be tackling rustic wedding venues in the GTA, for all of you who are aiming for that shabby-chic vibe on your big day. These venues aren’t just suited for casual affairs (although they’re perfect for those, too), they can also be glammed up for for a glitzy event with an added rustic edge. Rustic glam weddings have been on the rise in popularity, and we aren’t mad it it. From naked cakes, lace dresses, to venues strewn with fairy lights, we can’t get enough of this trend. Living in the big city can make it tough to find the perfect venue that’s a mixture between rustic and chic, but you don’t have to worry since the Whimlets are here to help. We’re super excited to share some of our favorite rustic wedding venues around the city with you, so let’s jump right into it!
RUSTIC WEDDING VENUES IN THE GTA
Ward’s Island Clubhouse
Steps from the Ward’s Island Ferry docks, you can find this adorable clubhouse on the Toronto Island. It may be a bit of a treck, but it’s totally worth it— you can get that beach house vibe without venturing too far from the city. In addition to its charming aesthetic, the location of this rustic wedding venue offers a great opportunity for stunning photos against Toronto’s skyline. Whether you choose string fairy lights from the stunning cathedral ceiling and go all out with decor or leave the setting in its natural beauty, you can’t go wrong with Ward’s Island Clubhouse.
Berkley Fieldhouse
You probably won’t believe us when we say you can have cocktails in a tree house and a stroll along a creek, followed by a gathering in a natural garden in the heart of downtown Toronto, but at Berkley Fieldhouse, you can have it all. Located in the centre of our bustling city, this venue is an ideal option for those that want the feel of a country carriage house, without having to actually go into the country. With quaint accents like antique chandeliers, wood walls, and french doors that lead to a garden patio, it’s tough to beat the charm of this rustic wedding venue. rustic wedding venues in the GTA
Black Creek Pioneer Village
This name might ring a bell— and yes, it’s the place you went on your seventh grade field trip to. But we promise we aren’t insane to suggest you have your wedding here! You might be surprised at how adorable the facilities are. With different options, both indoor and outdoor, of where to have your ceremony and reception, Blackcreek Pioneer Village gives you a ton a freedom when deciding what your big day will look like. Whether you choose to get married at Town Hall and celebrate in the Grand Pavilion, this village offers its 19th century charm wherever you go. rustic wedding venues in the GTA
Cambium Farms
There’s no better way to achieve that rustic vibe than getting married in a barn. You may question how you’ll prepare a barn for a chic wedding, but it’s simple when you choose Cambium Farms. An architectural masterpiece with exposed beams, braces, posts, and rafters, the intricate craftsmanship on display here doesn’t require draping or sheaths to be covered up. You can use the barn’s original form along with a few delicate embellishments to create a perfect setting for your big day. rustic wedding venues in the GTA
Pathways on Pleasure Valley
Located just 45 minutes outside Toronto, this is the perfect rustic wedding venue for couples who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy their day in a tranquil location. Described as a “hidden gem” on their website, Pathways on Pleasure Valley is just that. You can choose to hold your event at their picnic area underneath a heavenly canopy, or inside their quaint lodge. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing venue to get married, then look no further. rustic wedding venues in the GTA
Artscape Wychwood Barns
A wonderfully unique venue in midtown Toronto, this is another option that offers the charm of a rustic barn without leaving the city. With soaring ceilings, a full-length skylight, and incredibly detailed architecture, it’ll be tough to find a more stunning rustic wedding venue in Toronto. The Covered Street Barn can accommodate up to 450 guests in the theatre, and up to 600 in the reception area. However, if you’re planning on a slightly small affair, the barn can be partitioned into smaller spaces for a more intimate feel. rustic wedding venues in the GTA
These are just a few of our favorite rustic wedding venues around the GTA, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more. Toronto is crawling with rustic-chic venues that might be perfect for your big day, so if you didn’t fall in love with any of the ones on our list, don’t get discouraged! Have we left out any rustic wedding venues you think should have an honourable mention? Leave us a comment below and let us know!

2017 Wedding Dresses
The 2017 Spring and Fall bridal runways were full of plunging necklines, ruffled skirts, and stylish toppers to help brides beat the cold in a fabulous way. Designers didn’t hold back when it came to creating some of the most jaw dropping 2017 wedding dresses for the season, and we loved every moment of it. Although not all of the avant-garde runways styles will be popular with 2017 brides, there were definitely some wearable styles that we’re sure will make their way into bridal shops near you.
If you’re looking for a little 2017 wedding dress inspo for your upcoming nuptials, then look no further. We’ve covered all the highlights and included all the styles you’ll be likely to see in bridal boutiques this year!
2017 WEDDING DRESS TRENDS
Plunging Necklines
Surprised by this trend? We aren’t. Modern and sexy brides looking to bare a little skin won’t have to look too hard to find their perfect gown this year. Many 2017 wedding gowns feature a decolletage-baring neckline, and we aren’t mad at it! Showing a little cleavage as you walk down the aisle is anything but taboo nowadays- and it looks uber fab, if we do say so ourselves.
Off-The-Shoulder
This trend was so popular on the runway, you’ll be able to to find almost any silhouette in an off-the-shoulder style. This is a great option if you’re looking for a dress that’ll allow you to show off a little skin, without the revealing cleavage of a plunging neckline. Display your bare decolletage with an off-the-shoulder-gown, or choose to accessorize with an eye-catching statement necklace!
Ruffled Skirts
Ruffled skirts have been quite popular with brides the past few years, but tiered skirts are reaching an entirely new level on 2017 wedding dresses. Cascading ruffles can be seen on boho chic gowns to the most formal of ball gowns. No matter what look you’re going for, you can be sure that there’s a ruffled dress for you!
Sleeves
Let’s be real- long sleeved wedding gowns have been in style since Kate Middleton walked down the aisle in 2011. Whether you’re a conservative bride who would rather cover up, or just someone who likes the look of a sleeved gown, you’ll be glad to know that long sleeved wedding dresses won’t be going out of style anytime soon. However, the sleeves you’ll be seeing on 2017 wedding gowns are a little different. Designers like Isabella Armstrong and Rita Vinieris have taken inspiration from boho-chic trends off the ready-to-wear runway, and opted for billowy bishop sleeves on their gowns. Mildly reminiscent of the sleeves you probably saw on your mother’s gown, this is a modern take on the dated trend.
3D Details
3D floral details and large oversized bows were prevalent on this year’s runway. We anticipate that 2017 wedding dresses will be all about the details! Whether you’re searching for a gown with small floral embellishments or a large oversized bow on the back of your dress for an added surprise, you’ll be ecstatic to hear that designers like Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta have got you covered!
Crop Tops
Drawing inspiration from the music festival style that’s ravaged teens and young adults, we’ve seen a few delicate crop top 2017 wedding dress designs. You might be surprised to see how classy some of these pieces are, although some of them are suited for a younger, more playful bride.
Warm Toppers
Good news for brides who are planning a winter wedding! We know exactly why winter wedding are awesome, but there’s one reason why they aren’t- brides are often left out in the cold if they aren’t fans of the limited options they have to choose from for stylish coverups. Luckily, more toppers were a big hit this year with designers creating fab bomber jackets, capelets, boleros and ponchos to compliment your gown perfectly.
Color
Pantone couldn’t choose just one color of the year for 2017, and designers didn’t either. Taking full advantage of the Pantone’s choices of Rose Quartz and Serenity, there were more hints of color on the bridal runway than we’re used to seeing. Both of these colors are extremely wearable for brides, and perfect for those who want to veer off the path of tradition just a little. Rose Quartz is a light blush tone, while Serenity if more of a cool baby blue. You can find dresses in these shades from major designers like Romona Keveza, Monique Lhuillier, and Hayley Paige, to name a few.
Accessories
Large statement earrings are bound to be one of the most trendy accessories for 2017 bridal looks. A ton of models have been spotted on the runway wearing oversized earrings to compliment their ravishing gowns, and we are absolutely obsessed with this trend. If you’re a super glam bride looking to amp up the glitz factor of your bridal look, then look no further!

Summer Bridal Shower Inspiration
By Tarisha Beniprashad
Centerpieces are can be a point of contention when planning a wedding: Big or small? Flowers or none? Artificial or real? The burden of having to come up with a magnificent centerpiece for your wedding day is heavy enough, without having to think about table decor at your bridal shower. Although we prefer to work with professional florists for flawless results on your big day, you can totally DIY your way to some cute centerpieces for your bridal shower. For those of you that that would rather take a simpler route for your bridal shower, we’ve got a few options that don’t take much prep work.
We’ve found some adorable centerpiece ideas that are fast and easy to put together- and don’t worry, not ALL of them are floral. Keep on reading if you’d like some inspiration for quick and easy bridal shower centerpieces!
DIY Bridal Shower Centerpieces
Floral
Hydrangeas are a great option if you want to incorporate fresh flowers into your decor, but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg. Sticking one or two stems in a vase or mason jar can make a small yet full arrangement. You can’t go wrong sticking with a classic white, or you can opt for blue, pink, green, or even purple hydrangeas. Wrap a ribbon around your vase, and you’ve got an adorable centerpiece that took no more than 10 minutes to put together!
Tulips can be found in an array of colors, and are one of those flowers that don’t have to be in abundance to look pretty. Having a few tulips in a small vase, and using the blossom’s natural foliage to fill in the sparse areas can create a tall, elegant centerpiece!
Roses are another great option. Some people automatically think a rose-themed centerpiece would be insanely expensive, but they don’t have to be. Roses are so exquisitely beautiful on their own, and don’t necessarily need to be presented in bouquets to be stunning. Having one short rose placed in a quaint little drinking glass or mason jar can make for a small, very cute centerpiece. This option would be better suited for a more casual event, like a backyard shower. We love this idea- it is the definition of cute and quaint!
PRO DIY TIP: Tying a piece of ribbon or twine around the outside of your vases/jars would be a super cute addition to any of these options!
Non-Floral
Depending on how casual your shower is, you could opt for some fruit on your tables. It’s a fun way to keep the ambiance light and fresh, especially for a summertime wedding. Brightly colored produce like green apples, lemons, oranges, and lime are all fantastic options. By filling a decent sized vase with your desired fruit, you can create a fun and interesting centerpiece. You could even stick a few seasonal flowers in between, as an added embellishment.
Candles are another great option, especially if you aren’t a fan of fresh flowers. Filling either a tall or short vase with colored gravel or beads that match your theme, and adding a candle on top is a simple way to DIY your way to an elegant centerpiece.
Another idea that might suit you if you want to avoid the floral route, is branches. Sounds a little weird and cryptic, we know. But if you go to an art supply store like Michael’s, you can find some artsy faux branches that you can coat with some white spray paint, and turn into a unique centerpiece. This option would be ideal for those of you looking for a taller arrangement for your tables. After sticking your freshly painted (or bare, for a more rustic feel) branches in a vase, you can choose to hang some bling or tea lights from them to amp it up a little.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to options for DIY centerpieces for your bridal shower. Have you seen any awesome DIY centerpieces lately, or created one yourself? Leave us a comment down below and let us know your thoughts on these quick and easy centerpieces!

Live Music Options for your Wedding Ceremony
By Tarisha Beniprashad
For some, the wedding reception is the main event of all their wedding festivities, but we’re strong believers that your ceremony should be the highlight. Vowing your love and life to your SO in front of your friends and family is a significant and beautiful affair, and should be decorated as such! Hiring a live musician or vocalist is a fantastic way to accentuate the elegance of your ceremony. We’ve compiled a list (you know us Whimlets love lists) of some live music options that we think would give your ceremony an extra flair! Keep on reading if you’d like some…
Live music options for your wedding ceremony!
Pianist
As long as there’s a piano at your venue, it’s tough to compete with this classic sound. There are
some incredible pianists in the GTA like Liz Craig who can play practically anything, making this a versatile option for any ceremony.
Harpist
If your venue’s got the space to accommodate the instrument and you really want to up the elegance factor, a harpist is the way to go. Whether your harpist is an angel or not, we guarantee a harp will sound angelic at your ceremony! Joanna Jordan is a fantastic harpist based in Toronto, and would definitely emphasize the grandeur of your vows.
Violinist
A violinist is an ideal option for almost any wedding. Your violinist can play songs and adjust their sound to suit the tone of your ceremony, whether its a backyard affair, or a black tie event. We’re big fans of Jill Daley’s versatile sound.
Organist
Organs are usually hidden out of sight and most commonly found in churches, so you’ll probably have a more formal ceremony if you’re opting to have the sounds of the organ grace the ears of your guests before your ceremony. You can’t go wrong with this traditional sound!
Vocalist
What’s more romantic than walking towards your groom to the sweet lyrics of your special song? Nothing, that’s what. Susan Dunstan is an amazing singer, and we’re sure she’d moisten some eyes before you even walk down the aisle!

Do you really think we could’ve wrote this article without special mention of the greatest wedding singer of all time?
Ensemble
You probably won’t opt for a full out wedding band for your ceremony, but a small ensemble or even a quartet would be a lovely option to orchestrate your processional. We’re big fans of violin and cello duets; check out Walla Music for some heavenly ensembles, and samples of their work!
Band
Hiring a versatile band is another great option if you’d like to incorporate live music into your ceremony. From a graceful ceremony duo to a full dance band at your reception, groups like Brent Miller Live can entertain your guests throughout the days events! We had the privilege of hearing this band live at the 2016 WPIC kick off at The Forth, and we can personally assure you they’ve got an amazing sound!
This list ins’t exhaustive, but we hope that we’ve helped you out a little when contemplating your options when it come to live music at your wedding ceremony. You can’t go wrong with any of these sounds- any of them would be the perfect way to begin your happily ever after!
Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about live music at wedding ceremonies, and if you think we missed any interesting options!
