Introducing Meera Meera – Indian Lehenga Rentals in Toronto!

Wednesday, 24 July 2019 by eventsbywhim

indian lehenga rentalsYou all know that one of my favourite past times is finding new and exciting vendors who are pushing the boundaries and serving with love. This week I had the pleasure of meeting Sonny from Meera Meera Rentals, located in Thornhill.

Introducing Meera Meera Rentals – Indian Lehenga Rentals in Toronto!

Meera Meera Rentals provides designer Indian lehenga rentals and boy, can I just say that we’ve needed this service for a long time? I’m sure you all can think of a few companies that provide clothing rental options for Western wear, both formal and informal, but I can’t think of any for South Asian attire.

As soon as Sonny reached out to me on Instagram, I was immediately intrigued. As a second-generation Canadian of Indo-Guyanese descent, I’m no stranger to South Asian attire. The issue I’ve had is that I don’t wear lehengas and sarees with enough frequency to constantly update my wardrobe. Also, my knowledge of what’s currently styling is limited to scrolling Instagram and Pinterest. It’s also hard to justify dropping $400+ on a beautiful outfit that I’ll likely only wear once. By the time the next event rolls around, it may have even gone out of style! Cue heartbreak and tears from me because I can’t stand having things just sit in my closet unworn.

Meera Meera fills this gap so beautifully – especially for fusion weddings, in my humble opinion. Sonny’s reasoning is that she herself is in a fusion marriage, and found that the constant need for stylish outfits came at a pretty big price tag.  Many people find it intimidating to head to the shops to shop and compare. As a fusion-wedding planner, I can attest that shopping for Indian attire can be challenging for non-Indian folks. Even I struggle with using the right terminology for the type of outfit that I want. By providing this service, Sonny takes the guesswork out of shopping for stylish Indian attire. I love that she is being eco-friendly with this service, and giving women a chance to look bomb-diggity at an affordable price point. I love that this service also means that I’ll have more variety at my finger tips, too!

So how much does it cost?

Meera Meera’s Indian lehenga rentals provides a boutique-style experience with pricing starting at $85 CAD for a stunning outfit, and a 4 day rental. Sonny also provides minor alterations and accessory rentals. Each outfit is professionally cleaned after every wear, so no need to worry about that, either! You can literally reach out to her, have an outfit with a super-fast turnaround and show up at your event looking like a million bucks! Sonny’s showroom is stunning and you’ll love every second of chatting with her. She’s warm, caring and funny, and she’ll make you feel right at home as you find the perfect outfit for your next event!

As an added bonus for Whim readers, let Meera Meera know that we’ve sent you, and you’ll receive $10.00 off of your first rental!

Venue Spotlight: Crystal Ballroom in the Omni King Edward Hotel

Wednesday, 13 February 2019 by eventsbywhim

Crystal Ballroom review

There are few venues with the sheer opulence and grandeur of the Crystal Ballroom in the Omni King Edward Hotel.

Dubbed the first luxury hotel in Toronto, its history of hospitality is unparalleled, much like the Crystal Ballroom itself. Every space in the Omni King Edward drips with style, but the newly reopened Crystal Ballroom is truly a space like no other. If you are interested in reserving the Crystal Ballroom for your function, it is important to note that the venue is considered one of the most-sought after spaces, and should be booked well in advance of your wedding or event.

The beautiful space underwent a $6.5 million renovation to restore the ballroom to its former state, with many modern touches, like the chandeliers and state of the art AV system. The history of the space is impressive, dating back to the 1920s with some of the most high profile events in the city happening in this decadent space.

My favourite features of the Crystal Ballroom are the floor to ceiling windows that wash the room in bright, sunny light, which make for stunning wedding photos. The space is approximately 5,000 square feet, and so can host gala-sized events easily. I also love that the space is completely private from the rest of the hotel. The hospitality team is amongst the best in the city, and the history of the Crystal Ballroom is both extensive and interesting, a fine talking point for guests. Fine art wedding enthusiasts, designers and anyone who is a fan of urbane, romantic space will want to check out the Crystal Ballroom as soon as possible!

Struggling with Styling? Give FrockBox.ca a Try!

Thursday, 07 February 2019 by eventsbywhim

FrockBox

I’m taking a little departure from my typical wedding-related content to talk about something important to me: feeling good in your own skin and how hard that has been for me at times.

I’ve never been the quintessential girly-girl. Growing up,  I just didn’t have the knack for doing my nails, putting on makeup and having picture-perfect hair that most girls did. I never felt like I fit in as a result and always struggled to keep up with trends. Fortunately that got better the older I got, as I settled into my own likes and dislikes and just went with whatever felt good to me at the time.

Cue entrepreneur life. A few years ago I was working in a corporate gig and so spent a lot more time shopping and staying on trend. After I left my corporate job in 2016, I spent a lot more time working from home and way less time in business-casual attire. In 2017, I found out I was expecting and suddenly everything I knew about myself went out the window. After Eric was born, I tried to shop again and between nursing a newborn, feeling absolutely bone-tired and just not understanding wtf my body was doing, I started to hate shopping. I’ve never been a mall-walking mom. I found it to be a hassle, especially since I was also still keeping up with my business.

A few months ago, I discovered clothing subscription service FrockBox on Instagram, and I decided to investigate further.

frockbox

FrockBox is a group of bad ass Canadian mompreneurs who have taken the guess work out of shopping and styling, and have literally walked in my shoes before me. The founder, Jenna, had her first baby and through conversations with other friends, realized that the shopping experience for new moms isn’t as fun as it was pre-baby. Jenna along with her two partners realized that having no time, feeling like a stranger in your own skin and toting along a baby made for a less-than-ideal shopping experience and wanted to change that for Canadian moms. FrockBox was born after she quipped to a few friends that it would be so convenient to have an outfit a month just magically appear at your doorstep, without having to stress about putting the right pieces together and styling it just right.

FrockBox’s Gold Box was the first offering – allowing for a complete outfit at a fixed price. The Favourites box came next, allowing for different options, combinations and price points.  I also absolutely love that this all-female company is very progressive and family-balance-friendly. Since this company was founded by moms and employs a lot of them, they understand the logistics of family life for real families.

I decided to give FrockBox a try three months ago to see if they could help me save time and energy (and frankly, frustration). I had a chat with my stylist, Kaylee, and so far, I’ve been very impressed. My first box arrived with a pair of high waisted dark wash denim jeans, a black floral skirt, a green frilly top, a fuzzy white sweater and earrings. To be honest, at first glance, I wasn’t sure if everything would work on me, but after trying on each piece, I was pleasantly surprised. Kaylee had managed to get me into clothing I likely would not have tried on myself, and I loved it all. I kept each piece that month!

My second month arrived, and with it, my anticipation grew like a gleeful kid on Christmas morning! This box had some truly amazing pieces, but not everything fit quite right. I particularly loved the blush tights and grey sweater with little pearl detailing, and I was sad that they weren’t a fit. I did end up keeping a green zippered moto jacket and a black sweater wrap dress. I let Kaylee know about the fit, though if everything had worked well, I would have kept it all! I love the mechanism that allows me to give Kaylee direct feedback on each item received so she can continue to pull pieces that are perfect for me. I’m even able to share my own style inspiration board on Pinterest with her! PS Kaylee, I’ll be doing this soon!

My latest box arrived and my husband called to let me know. I can’t lie, I arrived home pretty late and still ran straight for my FrockBox. I think Kash felt a bit slighted that my package got the first embrace. This one was an actual home run! Kaylee absolutely nailed it! I received a black lace skirt, a camel striped wrap top, a white basic wrap top, black velvety leggings and a pair of flat blush shoes. I never would have picked the tights or shoes or skirt and honestly, they are gorgeous. Keeping my entire box is running me about $150 CAD because the styling fee of $24.95 is credited back to any piece kept, and if you keep everything in your box, you save an additional 25%!

I had a chat with my stylist, Kaylee, to ask her more about what its like to be a stylist with FrockBox. Kaylee explained that she loves what she does, especially when women like me tell her that she’s nailed it! It’s sometimes challenging to find the right fit and style for everyone, but she assures me that it’s out there, even if it takes a while!

If you are like me, busy, an entrepreneur and/or mom, and struggle to find time to shop or style yourself, consider giving FrockBox a go. Looking good has a direct line toward making you feel more confident, and that is critical for all of us, in any walk of life! You’ll also be giving your support a local group of bad ass Canadian women!

As an added bonus, FrockBox has set up our followers with code EVENTSBYWHIM that waives the $25 styling fee on your first Favourites box, so you can try it risk-free!

How Does This Wedding Planner Stay Organized?

Thursday, 10 August 2017 by eventsbywhim

by Alisha Chadee

As a creative entrepreneur, I’m constantly looking for ways to stay organized and ahead of my work. Between client commitments, vendor management, actually managing my business, and all of the extra projects I want to take on, some days my brain feels like the zoo on half price admission day. How do I keep it all together? Well, it used to involve caffeine, but since I started growing my little peanut, I’ve had to give that up, too! Luckily it wasn’t the biggest sacrifice :). Here are a few tools that I use as a wedding planner and business owner to stay organized. PS none of these vendors are paying me to say any of this – these are just tools I use on a day to day that I really enjoy!

A FANTASTIC Day Planner – Day Designer

I did a lot of research before I committed to a pen-and-paper day planner. I wanted to be sure that I was using a tool that would help me map my days out, and achieve my long and short term goals. After extensive research, the Day Designer seemed like the best option for me because it is specifically tailored toward creative professionals (both entrepreneurs and otherwise). I love that each day has it’s own page with to do lists and scheduling sections, as well as areas geared toward mindfulness and gratefulness. While I’m a tech savvy person, and my clients are all on a cloud-based software (more on that later), its still incredibly important to me that I put pen to paper and make a list of everything I need to get done. My planner is super useful because I’m able to prioritize and organize my day around critical, important and nice-to-have actions. This is my second year using it, and I’ll be sure to repurchase for 2018.

A FANTASTIC Client Management System – Aisle Planner

Like I said before, we love being tech-savvy and efficient, and one of the ways that we’ve really pushed that point across is to use a fabulous client-facing planning tool. Aisle Planner is our client portal, as well as our client and vendor management tool. Once again, I did a lot of research over 2 years ago when we made the switch from spreadsheets and shared docs to a tool like AP. Any wedding planner with experience will tell you that managing 1-5 events is vastly different from juggling 20 or more. In order to do our best work, I felt that having an all-in-one tool with the capability of managing our vendor information as well was very handy and worth the investment. I love that our couples can log in from anywhere (we work with a lot of out of town couples), and can access everything related to their wedding.  Now that our team has expanded to include more planners, it’s handy to have a tool we can all use to stay organized for each of our commitments. We’ve even organized a team space to host our schedules, templates, documents, contracts and client-facing resources.

A FANTASTIC Scheduling Tool – Calendly

Some weeks I look over my schedule and it seems pretty light – a few meetings here and there, and tons of laptop-time to follow up with vendors, write articles and work on resources for my beloved brides and grooms. What happens more often than not is that my week turns around dramatically and is suddenly filled with meetings with clients, vendors, new inquiring couples and personal commitments. In order to track all of this (in addition to my trusty Day Designer) I started using a tool called Calendly. This handy tool syncs with my calendar to read my current commitments and parse out my availability for anyone who needs my time during business hours. This makes it easier for my couples to find times that fit their schedules so we can meet and collaborate. BC (before Calendly), I really disliked the back and forth by email trying to find times that suited everyone – with this tool everyone can easily figure out what works based on when I’m available and can also reschedule or cancel if need be directly online. This also allows me to have some control over last minute appointments and my own schedule for the week.

There you have it – tools that make my life easier! Every entrepreneur is different, and our needs are all dependent on the type of work we do, but these types of tools are super useful for anyone. I love how efficient these tools have made my team, and to be honest, our clients love them too!

As a past bride, I can tell you that the Hudson’s Bay has the best registry experience in the GTA, and we recommend it to all of our couples. I found the experience of building a registry online and in-store to be quite easy, both for myself and my guests.

  • The Hudson’s Bay Rewards Program is fantastic
  • If you’re not sure how it all works, the consultants are happy to help!
  • Registrants get access to exclusive offers and special VIP events
  • FINALLY get that KitchenAid Artisan Mixer you’ve been coveting from your mom’s kitchen for years

Now… Here’s why you should come hang out with us on September 25th and October 16th 2016!

The Scanning Event:

At both the Yorkdale and Queen Street locations, guests can start a new registry or add to an existing registry, all while sipping yummy bevvies (from Pelee Island Winery and Steam Whistle) and enjoying delicious snacks! Bridal Hair and Makeup- Why so Pricey!?

Tuesday, 26 April 2016 by Tarisha Beniprashad

By Tarisha Beniprashad

If you’re a bride planning your wedding, we’re sure you’ve been surprised by some of the quotes you received for bridal hair and makeup. And if you’re not a bride currently planning her wedding… well, we’re sure you’ve heard about the ‘outrageous’ prices. Surprise, surprise, just like most other things in the wedding industry, there are some not-so-obvious reasons behind these ‘pricey’ prices.

But worry not, The Whimlets were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to speak with Toronto makeup artist Beauty by Sacha, and got the inside scoop on why bridal hair and makeup can seem so costly. If you’d like to find out why bridal hair and makeup is so expensive, just keep on reading!

Here is a small sample of some of Beauty by Sacha’s work!

Why is bridal hair and makeup so expensive?

Education

Getting certified to be a professional makeup artist is no simple feat. It means making sure you’re able to work with different skin tones and types, as well as with a variety of features. Learning which looks and methods work with different faces takes an incredible about of time and experience. However, these skills comes as a perk to clients! By hiring a certified MUA, you can be sure that they’ll only use techniques and products to flatter and enhance your natural beauty. Dedicated artists are also always perfecting their craft, and keeping up with the latest trends. Sacha, like many other MUA’s, stays educated in her field by attending a number of seminars and workshops yearly to learn about new techniques.

Supplies

If you’re a Sephora enthusiast like we are, you definitely know that a slayed face does NOT come cheap! Maintaining a professional hair and makeup kit that’s suitable for a diverse collection of clients can get extremely pricey. Sacha values her personal kit at over $2500, and we’re sure other MUA’s can relate. Splurging on high-end products helps produce flawless looks, and ensures that the bride will stand out amongst everyone. You’ll definitely want to be glowing, with all eyes on you!

Transportation

Most professional makeup artists provide an in-home service to their brides, and bridesmaids. However, like most things, this convenience comes at a cost. Travelling to client’s homes contributes to the price that your MUA charges you, as they have to take into account the wear and tear of their vehicle, as well as the cost of gas.

Advertising

As an independent artist, it’s important to stand out among the competition- it’s up to them to attract new clients, and build their own client base. Maintaining a website and being able to network with other professionals and vendors in the industry can also be an added expense.

Is it really worth it to hire a professional artist?

What do we think? Yes! Of course! Nothing compares to the flawless work of a professional artist… have you seen the pictures of Sacha’s clients!? If you need some more convincing, check out the testimonials on her website- her professionalism and incredible customer service have her clients raving! You definitely can’t go wrong with hiring a professional MUA for your big day.

But I’ve found someone who can do it for cheaper than a professional artist…

This can be a tricky subject. It’s important to hire somebody that you trust, and that whose skills you’re confident in. As MUA Sacha pointed out to us, some artists are not certified, which can be a little problematic. Although there are many amazing self-taught artists out there, you want to make sure that your MUA is able to work with your skin tone and type, as well as with your unique features. Just because someone can apply makeup beautifully on themselves, doesn’t mean they can do it on others. Another issue that you may run into with a more inexpensive, un-certified artist is the quality of their products. All in all, make sure that you’re hiring someone that you can trust.

Tips when looking for a reputable MUA: Do they have any testimonials? Make sure to read them! Check out their portfolio of recent work, and ask for a trial- Sacha also recommends that you pay attention to their sanitary precautions!

As a bride, you’ve probably spent a ton of money, time, and effort planning your big day, and should look your best. You should be able to sit back, relax, and let your professional makeup artist enhance your natural beauty. After splurging on the flowers, decor, and your gown, it’s hard to justify pinching pennies when it comes to hair and makeup. Considering that you’ll be looking back at your pictures for the rest of your life, you’ll want to hire an artist that’ll help you look your absolute best!

We’d like to send a huge thank you to Beauty by Sacha for taking the time to speak with us about her industry. We are amazed by her talent, and encourage you to visit her website and Instagram to check out some of the amazing looks she’s done!

Think we left out any important details? Leave us a comment below and let us know what you think about the price of bridal hair and makeup!

xoxo,

Hilton Mississauga Venue Review

Sunday, 29 November 2015 by eventsbywhim

by Alisha Chadee

I love being a wedding and event planner. I love it for so many reasons. The primary reason is that I enjoy helping couples plan the most important day of their lives and I love the creativity involved with designing a themed corporate party. It honestly doesn’t feel like work to me because I enjoy all aspects of the planning and execution. As with any career, there are fun perks! One of them is that the Whimlets are constantly invited by venues to visit and sample their fares. Poor us – having to visit beautiful spaces and eat yummy food. It’s a hard life, but someone has to evaluate all that the wedding world has to offer you! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered :).

Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale – Yessss!!!

Recently I was invited by the beautiful Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale to come visit their beautiful wedding and event space.

Hilton Hotel

Lobby of the Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale – courtesy of the hotel

As I sat in the lovely lobby and took a few snaps with my camera, I took in the ambiance of the room. I like evaluating lobbies. This is the first spot your guests will see at the onset of your wedding. I loved that this space was warm and friendly, with a professional yet luxurious feel.

I met with Richha, the Catering and Sales Manager, and she strove to welcome me and answer all of my questions. Richha took me on a tour of the ballrooms, meeting spaces, restaurant and even a guest suite! Check out a few photos of the lovely ceremony and reception spaces. All event space photos courtesy of the Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale.

Mississauga Hilton

Compass Room Reception Space – beautiful for a cocktail reception

Mississauga Hilton Hotel

The Greenwich Room – perfect for a reception dinner and dance.

Hilton Mississauga

The Greenwich Room is also very appropriate for a lovely and modern wedding ceremony

Hilton Mississauga

I am OBSESSED with modern ceremony spaces and the Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale delivers!

Modern and luxe. It’s difficult to find spaces in Toronto that can cater to groups of up to 900 that have this ambiance. Like I’ve mentioned before – I love modern.

It wouldn’t be a good site visit without sampling the fare offered by the culinary geniuses at theHilton Mississauga Meadowvale. Richha and I headed over to their in-house restaurant, Quest. The food was delicious and beautifully displayed. The head chef is able to customize their menu to suit even the pickiest palette and I was pleased with the extensive selection of wines.

Hilton Mississauga

Are you drooling yet? I wonder if I can do a second site visit..

Hilton Mississauga

This meatloaf was amazing! I (reluctantly) shared my leftovers with my husband. It was gone in seconds!

Hilton Mississauga

Richha’s three-cheese mac! Yum!

All in all, I really like the Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale for an intimate or large wedding reception for a few reasons:

  1. Modern couples looking for a hotel wedding experience usually think of the options available in Toronto. I was very pleased to see that we have a great modern, luxurious hotel option here in Mississauga. I love the West-end, and I’ve lived here my entire life – so the more it develops, the happier I am!
  2. I very much enjoyed the food. I am a foodie at heart and I believe that your guests will always appreciate a well thought out meal at your wedding. Working with experienced chefs and sommeliers guarantees that your guests will have a wonderful culinary experience. I also enjoyed the flexibility of the menus. There are sit-down and buffet options, along with a multitude of cultural variations available.
  3. I love modern wedding and event spaces. TheHilton Mississauga Meadowvale offers a sleek, contemporary design and is suitable for modern luxe weddings.

Divine Beauty By Sathi – Vendor Spotlight

Thursday, 05 November 2015 by eventsbywhim

Today on the blog we wanted to introduce you to a talented makeup artist in the Toronto and GTA region. We’ve worked with her on photoshoots and our brides love her stunning work. We love versatility, and Sathi has it. She has that rare ability that goes beyond applying makeup. She is wonderful at reading her clients and enhancing their best features. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a knockout and such a sweetheart, too! Every one of Sathi’s brides glow in their wedding photos and it’s no wonder that her wedding season is fully booked each year.

Get to know Divine Beauty by Sathi and read her questionnaire below. Be sure to check her out on Facebook, and Instagram, too!

Divine Beauty by Sathi

  1. How did you become a wedding makeup artist? What initially piqued your interest? I have always loved make-up! Even as a child, my Mom said I would take her lipstick and put it on. I started out doing my friends and family members make-up for their birthdays, proms and other special events. I was always their go-to girl for getting “dolled up”. I then decided that I wanted to experiment more with products and different colours when I saw my first make-up tutorial on YouTube. After that, I was hooked and bought my first eye shadow palette. I started practising on my self and others and finally decided to get certified in this new world of make-up. After receiving my Make-up Artistry certification from the Canadian Aesthetics Academy, I began doing Bridal/Wedding Make-up Professionally.
  2. Tell us about your very first wedding gig? My first wedding party was about 5 years ago, which consisted of 5 bridesmaids and of course the Bride. What an experience it was! It was so rewarding to see the reactions of my clients after I had done their make-up. Their smiles and shocked expressions at how beautiful they looked and felt made me want to delve deeper into this industry and make it my career.
  3. If you weren’t a makeup artist, what would you be?I would definitely be in the people business. My corporate 9-5 job is within the Staffing and Recruiting world and this is also very rewarding. Either I am helping someone find their next career adventure, or getting them ready for their most special day, helping people in any aspect of their lives is what I love to do!
  4. When you aren’t making brides look their best, what can we find you doing? You can definitely find me spending time with my husband and caring for my daughter. They are my motivation and number one supporters.
  5. What’s your absolute favourite thing about being a wedding makeup artist? The satisfaction of my clients is what I love most. Knowing that they have someone in their corner who is professional and dedicated to them on their big day, is important to me. I truly love creating and enhancing my canvas to bring out my clients inner beauty. Their confidence and happiness after I am done working, is what keeps me going!
  6. What’s something you don’t think many people know about doing what you do?Make-up artistry is truly an art and takes a lot of practise, dedication and hard work. You must constantly upgrade your skills and learn new techniques to stay current. Make-up is always changing, just like fashion.
  7. What are some of your other passions (or hobbies)?I love photography. I mostly love to capture my daughter and all of her different smiles and facial expressions. I am still learning and maybe one day I will jump into this craft as well.

Sinfully Sweet by Sonia J – Vendor Spotlight

Sunday, 27 September 2015 by eventsbywhim

Meet Sinfully Sweet by Sonia J

Today on the blog we are featuring one of our favourite cake vendors – Sinfully Sweet by Sonia J. Sonia makes the most delectable cakes, and they are a treat for the eyes, too! We’ve used her services for our clients and even for our own personal use, too :). We’re sure you’d love to get to know her and her lovely designs better, so read through our interview, and check out her social media links below. Enjoy!

1. How did you become a wedding designer and baker? What initially piqued your interest?
My mother was my inspiration. From a very young age, I would join her in the kitchen while she baked and decorated cakes and was memorized how something so beautiful can be created and EATEN! All I can think to myself was I wanted to do that be like her. In 2003, I had taken a Wilton course that taught how to make sugar flowers and I was blown away. Ever since, I have always tried outdo myself with every cake project and couldn’t be any happier.

2. Tell us about your very first wedding gig?
My very first wedding cake was made for a very romantic couple, who wanted cascading red roses. At this point, I’ve heard of humidity affecting cakes but had not yet experienced it. It was mid-August and a hour drive to the venue. I started putting the cake together and realized it was shiny and started to bubble in certain spots. I panicked for about 5 mins, then realized I needed to cool the cakes. I ran to Home Depot bought 3 fans so that the cake would get cool air from all sides and within the hour it stop sweating and the bubbles were gone. Lesson from this experience, keep the air conditioner on while travelling and keep fans on hand when delivering wedding cakes.

3. If you weren’t baking beautiful wedding cakes, what would you be?
If I wasn’t baking cakes, I would have been a teacher. I love working with kids and for along time thought that’s what I wanted to be but working and being in school made me realized I didn’t want to grade papers for a career. I wanted colour. I wanted to create something with my hands. I wanted to make others happy and realized making cakes gave me all that and so it turned from hobby to a career.
4. When you aren’t baking fabulous wedding cakes, what can we find you doing?

When I’m not creating cakes, I spend time with my son and fiance. We go out for dinner, watch movies, go to the park, spend time with our families or I watch Netflix while they play on the PS3.

5. What’s your absolute favorite thing about designing and baking wedding cakes?
My absolute favorite thing about designing and baking wedding cakes is the end result. Each couple I have work with is unique from their first meeting to the way they love each other and I’m given the honor of translating that love into an edible creation. So every small detail counts. The cakes take months of preparation from the flowers to even the recipe. Once it all comes together like pieces of a puzzle, I stand back to take it all in and admire their relationship through my creative design. This feeling only magnifies when you see the admiration from your clients and hear raving reviews from them about the look and taste of your creation.

6. What’s something you don’t think many people know about doing what you do?

I don’t think many people realize how much time it takes to put a structurally-sound wedding cake together. There are very few professionals out there that are willing to make an all edible multi-tiered wedding cake. Cakes are a visual thing as much as they are edible so when you create a cake, all the layers of the cake must be the same level in order to achieve cake tiers that are all the same height. Then you must make sure that the side of each cake tier is at a 90 degree angle (unless this is a whimsical cake) and the tops of each tier must be level. This way the tier going on top will sit on properly with out any leaning. To get these tiers as level as possible is almost half a days work. It just goes on and on and on and I don’t think a lot of people realize this.

Vendor Spotlight: Leccare Lollipops!

Tuesday, 01 September 2015 by eventsbywhim

Leccare Lollipops make a great wedding favour!

Every so often we like to feature vendors who offer services and products that we just love! Recently we connected with Leccare Lollipops, and we fell in love with their brightly coloured and super tasty lollipop treats! We think you’ll love them too, so read on to find out more about this awesome company!
1. How did you get into live wedding favours? What initially Leccare Lollipops piqued your interest?

It was just the natural progression. I was a wedding photographer in a past life. After attending many weddings I always hated taking shots of the food. There was nothing that really popped other than the cakes. When I started making lollipops I knew that they had to be visually striking and taste phenomenal to boot.

2. Tell us about your first wedding gig?

It was for a friend almost 4 years ago. It was simple, but unique. When I saw the patrons photographing the lollipops instead of selfies and the crowd I knew I had hit on something.

3. If you weren’t into wedding favours, what would you be doing instead?

I would probably be working on graphic design and wedding invitations. I love working with brides &
grooms, creating something unique and one of a kind. I am lucky enough to include this with the lollipops so I get the best of both worlds. Leccare lollipops

4. When you’re not making sweet treats, what could we find you doing?

Reading, Shopping farmers markets. Trying to come up with new flavor combinations that are slightly off the wall. I can never sit still. It always turns back to the business.

5. What’s your absolute favourite thing about making beautiful and tasty lollipops?

The reviews. I love hearing how wives hide them from their husbands, and vise versa. I have parents that eat gifts they got for their kids. Knowing that someone out there is enjoying one of our lollies and bringing a smile to their face. Even for part of the day 🙂

6. What’s something you don’t think many people know about creating what you do?

I don’t write down any recipes. They are all in my head. All 80 flavors. I use scent instead of taste to know when I hit the mark. ( then give it a quick taste just to make sure! )

7. What are some of your other passions (or hobbies)?

I love knitting, never have enough time. I really love the idea of handmade. Knowing someone loves something that I put love into. Photography – kids are my favorite subjects. They have this way about
them. Makes you feel like you are looking into another world.
