A summer proposal at the Toronto Music Garden
The Toronto Music Garden is a lovely spot in Toronto, and are very popular for engagement and wedding photography because there aren’t many spots in the city where a couple can have nature-filled shots juxtaposed with graffiti and charming city photos. Samantha and Ryan had a lovely surprise proposal at the Toronto Music Gardens, and Samantha is the sister of our own social media intern, Tarisha! Check out her story here:
Ryan and I were introduced by mutual friends about two years ago, and went on our first date in November 2013. Many of our excursions includes us roaming around the downtown Toronto area and discovering new places to hang out and see.
Since Ryan and I spend a lot of our free time downtown, when we made plans to go get drinks in the distillery district on a random Saturday in June of 2015, I didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary. On the the subway ride there he said that we needed to make a quick stop. I asked where, to which he answered the Toronto Music Garden; somewhere neither one of us had been. On our way there we got a bit lost and went too far East, and then decided to hop in a cab and we finally arrived at the Toronto Music Garden. We walked around a bit and reminisced about when we first met. We walked over to a beautiful gazebo and he pulled a letter out of his jacket he said I have something I want to read to you… As he read I realized what he was going to ask. He got down on one knee and said “will you marry me?” In tears I paused and said yes!

A Love (Literally) Worth Waiting Half a Lifetime For- Toronto Proposal Story
My significant other, Andre, and I went shopping for rings many many months before he proposed. He hid the ring for months, so getting it was a like-new surprise since I hadn’t seen it in so long (forgot the details in what it looked like).
We are in our 40’s now and met in our 30’s. It is and was a love worth waiting half my lifetime for. I have never been so in love with someone. Andre feels the same way about me. We are inseparable. When one goes out without the other, we are subjected to a barrage of questions from our friends and family. It’s so funny to think that so many of our loved ones are so used to seeing us together, that it’s strange to see us apart.
Both of our kids are grown, so we enjoy a lifestyle unlike many couples our age. We can go away for weekend trips ona whim. We have more flexibility in our budgets, and more time off work than ever before.
Andre and I booked a weekend in Niagara-On-the-Lake at the Pillar & Post Inn and Spa. What a divine place. So calm and relaxing. We pre-booked our dinners, our spa afternoons and our beautiful fall days to spend shopping and browsing at NOTL.
At dinner the first night, Andre hardly ate (which is very odd for him). We had our main courses and dessert, and by surprise, a bottle of champagne showed up after dessert. That’s when he proposed! The whole restaurant erupted in congratulations and applause. It was special and a completely unexpected moment!
We don’t have a wedding date picked out – maybe one day on a Caribbean vacation!

Reconnected Love – Toronto Proposal Story
My fiancé and I met about ten years ago but didn’t reconnect until November 2013. He found me on LinkedIn and sent a message to my inbox asking me out on a date however I didn’t see it till after the New Year. Days before Valentine’s Day we had our first date at a local coffee shop and he couldn’t take his eyes off me. It was nice to reconnect after all these years but I had no intentions of entering into a relationship at that time. He had asked me out on our second date for Valentine’s Day, we spent the entire day and night together, I knew he was special from that point on; it was one of the most memorable days of my life up until this point. I have never met someone that treats, admires and loves me the way he does. After only a few short months of dating, on June 24th 2014 he proposed! I remember the day like the back of my hand because I wasn’t in a great mood, our day didn’t go as planned but Greg was persistent on lifting my spirits. We were
alone at home when he asked what he could do to cheer me up, to my surprise, this was followed by him getting down on one knee… I was in complete shock! I knew he was head over heels for me but I never thought he would have popped the question so soon. When I took a first glance at the ring, I didn’t take it seriously. I thought this may have just been a promise ring, but one month before that we went to Tiffany’s to look at rings for fun. A few minutes went by and I realized this was real, the ring was real, all my dreams were coming true. We kept it to ourselves for about a month because we were afraid what people would think but my friends and family couldn’t have been more happier for me. I’m looking forward to all the planning, the shopping and of course getting married to my guy next August 🙂

I’m not even sure where to start. On Nov 5, 2014 I did my usual routine of dragging myself out of bed and getting to school. When I came home, I went to get food and saw this…. My favorite! Chocolate covered strawberries with white chocolate drizzled in my favourite colour….. and I was confused….. I thought okay my sisters must want something.
I went to my bedroom and saw that my door was shut (I knew something was up, my door is never shut unless I am home). I opened up my door and saw this….
The note had a few lovey dovey mushy things and instructed me to get dressed by 4:30 and my carriage awaits. So I got dressed, waited and my boyfriend Navin came to my house to pick me up. We went to his house and he blindfolded me. He drove (I tried to track his route in my head but I lost track). We got to our destination, he took me out and guided me inside carefully, because I had heels on and was blindfolded! He took my blindfold off and I had a huge smile on my face, then I looked around and I’m like “Oh we’re in Moxies hmmm…” (Moxie’s was our first dinner date). We had dinner, and he told me that we were going somewhere else afterwards. Then all of a sudden I hear Rihanna’s We Found Love playing (which was the first song we danced to on our first date – first date was on my birthday) and he went down on one knee, pulled out the ring, mumbled something and all I understood was “Will you marry me?” I said yes!
His best friend took some photos of us, and Navin blindfolded me again, and we were on our way to the second destination. When we arrived, I heard my mom laughing and giggling. When he took the blindfold off, everyone was sitting down at the table waiting for me. But it was my Dad’s birthday as well! So we celebrated my Dad’s birthday and our engagement.
At the end of the night we took a few other photos to reenact the proposal moment for everyone else, and we even took a photo in front of his second wife (his car)!
It turns out that my sisters were in on everything! They knew if Navin told me to get ready to go out, I would have put on sweats and a t-shirt, so they made sure that I dressed appropriately. He asked my parents for their approval few weeks before he planned the proposal and they were overjoyed. And we are now planning our wedding for July 2016 with the amazing Whim Team. #SheSaidYesTdot
